“The way to integration” is a term with rich Chinese flavor. Integration means cooperation, fusion, aggregation, appropriateness……. But for Siemens, it has another Sino-Western interpretation. Take the two letters A and D from Siemens Automation and Drives Group and place them one on top of the other, respectively structure to form a Chinese character “integration”—at the new conference of Siemens Automation Summit 2008, the Executive Vice President of Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. and President of Siemens Industrial Automation Peter Herweck says, “‘the way to integration’ is the automation solution of Siemens. On August 10, 2008, “the way to integration” with “innovation, fusion, communication and development” as key words—Siemens Automation Summit 2008 opened ceremoniously at Hainan Boao Forum for Asia has attracted experts from political, academic and industrial circles and all professions as well. Its scale, specification, coverage and influence have set a record in “summits” of the automation industry in China. Almost 800 users attended the summit. This summit takes the initiative to focus on various problems and challenges facing against the background of the Chinese economy such as problems brought forth by rapid economic growth and acceleration of urbanization and industrialization process and new challenges in the industries like manufacturing and so on, and actively seek solutions. It can be called the most influential work of Siemens as a leader.

 

On the morning that day, the entire venue of Boao Forum for Asia was bustling for “automation” for the first time, but it is by no means manifestation of temporary liveliness. The general secretary of Boao Forum for Asia Long Yongtu committed to promoting Asian economic integration pointed out that strong demands of Asia, especially China, play as the most powerful driving force to stimulate rapid economic growth, which will be sustained for twenty or thirty years. In China’s economy, the manufacturing industry will maintain the pillar position. Competition, brand, innovation are tests that the manufacturing industry is facing currently. The automation industry dedicated to providing such services will have a bright prospect.

 

In the development history of automation applications, technology is one of the driving factors. The director of Chinese Association of Automation and academician Dai Ruwei discussed the scientific innovation and industrial intelligent automation. From the point view of the historical vein of scientific, technological and industrial development, the academician Mr. Dai has analyzed current developing trend of automation and information. He pointed out that present information revolution is propelling the fifth industrial reform; automation technology in the new century is automation of mental work; meanwhile, humanities and natural science will walk up to integration; therefore, intelligent development of the automation technology is just unfolding.

Peter Herweck analyzed the problems Chinese manufacturers are facing: diversity of products and customers’ demands, rapid response capacity based on strict standards and prerequisite of quality, increasing shortage of energy and raw materials and rising of labor cost, increasingly stringent security, requirements for environmental protection and sustainable development, shifting from Chinese manufacturers to Chinese creators, and convergence of domestic enterprises and international markets, etc. To meet all these challenges, Siemens pushed out rich and colorful solutions: establish modern “digital factories” by applying industrial automation technology; save energy and reduce consumption, improve productivity and enhance corporate core competitiveness; adopt international standards in areas such as the production line, quality management and service management, etc.; innovate independently and strengthen product life circle management.
